This is an essential short course to equip you with the skills and knowledge to minimise the many risks associated with working at heights. If you work in the resources or infrastructure industries, this course is a must-do for your safety. You'll learn about applying height safety procedures; installing appropriate signs and barricades and how to inspect/install fall protection, amongst many other crucial skills. Course details

How to enrol

Unique Student Identifier (USI) - Student Information

From 1 January 2015 if you are undertaking a nationally recognised program at TAFE Queensland you will need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Learn all about the USI and how to get your USI for your study.

Entry requirements

While there are no formal entry requirements, it is recommended that you have sound literacy and numeracy skills, and that you have completed year 10 or are 16 years of age or above.

Resources required

  • steel-capped boots (closed-in shoes may be acceptable if you do not own steel-capped boots)
  • cotton drill long pants and shirt
  • personal stationery (pen and paper)


This short course runs over 1 full day. All class times will be confirmed as the start date approaches. You will need to ensure you have enrolled at least 2 business days prior to the course commencing.


Classes at Chinchilla generally run from 8am to 4pm in room A1.12


Classes at Toowoomba generally run from 8am to 4pm in room E1.02 or E1.04.

As an alternative to classroom-based delivery options above, we can deliver training in the workplace (minimum class sizes apply), provided it is suitable for delivery. Classes at TAFE at various locations may also be arranged for industry groups, with dates, locations and times to be negotiated.

Important Information

TAFE Queensland South West can also offer this program to business/corporate clients in the workplace if required. Please enquire to discuss how we can assist your organisation.


The successful completion of this short course requires you to complete 1 unit.

RIIWHS204D Work safely at heights Core


The elective units available may vary between locations, delivery modes and intakes.

If you’re an eligible existing worker in the building and construction industry, you may be able to undertake this qualification at a reduced cost thanks to funding from Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ). Funding is available to assist workers to gain high level qualifications, upgrade skills, or gain recognition for existing skills.
