How to enrol

Become a qualified electrician

Learn the skills for all types of electrical installations, including the wiring of commercial, residential and industrial settings.

Entry requirements

Students must be employed as an apprentice or trainee and have a signed Registered Training Contract, stating TAFE Queensland South West is the Supervising Registered Training Organisation (SRTO).

The Queensland Government's Apprenticeships Info website provides information about apprenticeships and traineeships (including school-based) in Queensland.

Delivery of this program is available as a combination of workplace training and will include some delivery at TAFE. Where workplace training is selected, a Teacher will be assigned to attend your workplace to deliver training and assess your skills and knowledge. Delivery at TAFE consists of face-to-face classes after being released from the workplace by your employer. The duration of your attendance will vary depending on the stage and the units of competency specified in your individual training plan.

TAFE attendance times: Mondays from 10am to 4.30pm, Tuesday to Thursday 8am to 4.30pm, and Fridays from 8am to 2.30pm (please refer to training notices for minor variations to start and end times).


The successful achievement of this qualification requires you to complete 23 core units and a combination of elective competency standard units to achieve a total weighting of 140 points from the list below.  Electives may differ between TAFE Queensland locations and regions.
