Entry requirements

While there are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, it is recommended that you have completed a Certificate IV in Business, or another relevant qualification, and/or that you have experience in a range of work environments.

The following information will assist you in deciding if you are ready for study at this level:

  • Are you volunteering or working in a business environment? Although assessment can be based on simulation, you would benefit from having some involvement in, or access to, a business environment.
  • Do you have literacy levels equivalent to a successful completion of year 12 English? Study will involve a range of reading comprehension activities, report writing, and conducting and analysing research. At this level your written communication needs to be of a professional standard in presentation, structure, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Do you have basic computer skills to access resources online, send and receive emails and use a range of MS Office programs?
  • Do you have a range of study skills, self-motivation and reasonable independence to direct your study? You will need to foster self-discipline in organising your study time, so as to prioritise your workload to meet your assessment deadlines.
  • Although functioning fairly independently in your learning, do you feel confident in contacting your teacher or other support staff when needed? Staff at TAFE are here to support you throughout your training.

You will also require a valid and appropriate email address for communication, and personal stationery (pens and paper).

Timetable

You are required to attend face-to-face classes 2 days per week (which includes an evening class) for 1 semester (6 months).

Please refer to the timetable for details regarding days, times and rooms. Please note that timetables are subject to change, and that timetables for future semesters may differ to the current schedule.

It is expected that for each hour of study attended in classes, a minimum of equivalent hours of study will be undertaken each week outside of classes. When completing assessments, it may be necessary for this time commitment to increase.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Prior to applying for a VET Student Loan, please ensure that you have read and understood the VET Student Loans Pre-Enrolment Information

VET Student Loans are an interest-free loan from the Australian Government that help students pay for their education and training.

TAFE Queensland receives the full loan amount for your course directly from the Government, and you repay your loan through the Australian taxation system once your income reaches a certain threshold.

You are eligible for a VET Student Loan if you:

  • providing evidence of successful completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework certificate IV or higher qualification (where the language of instruction is English), OR

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front, or you are not eligible for VET Student Loan, you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Note: If you are accessing a VET Student Loan, and there is a difference between the loan cap amount and the total cost of your course (for example your loan cap amount is $10,000 and your course costs $11,000 - there is a $1,000 difference), you are required to pay the difference.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.
