Resources required

It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online systems, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office 2010 or later, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for you to use at a number of TAFE Queensland locations.

You will require a valid and appropriate email address (that includes your name for identification purposes), a USB, and personal stationery (pen and paper etc.). You may wish to consider purchasing a headset to ensure you can participate in the online teacher support sessions.

You will be provided with access to a combination of online and electronic resources to complete your training (instructions will be provided via email following enrolment).

You will also be required to access the required text books (available for you to loan from the TAFE Queensland South West Library).

Please note that at this stage any computing resources will either be Office v2010 or Office v2013. If you have a later version of Microsoft Office you will need to make adjustments and research any differences.

The nominal term for full-time trainees is 12 months. Trainees will generally complete 3 to 4 units per Term (each Term runs for approximately 10 weeks). Training is completed on-the-job, as well as via flexible modes involving a combination of electronic and paper-based resources, and workplace visits from the Trainer if negotiated. School-based trainees will generally have a longer duration of up to a maximum of 24 months or completion of year 12.

You will need to make arrangements for speed tests (15 minutes each week for 1 term), with your teacher. Speed tests are done online at a time that is mutually convenient for the student, employer and teacher.

Important Information

You will require access to Microsoft Publisher, as well as the other software packages including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. This software is available for you to use at a number of TAFE Queensland South West locations.
