Unique Student Identifier (USI) - Student Information

From 1 January 2015 if you are undertaking a nationally recognised program at TAFE Queensland you will need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Learn all about the USI and how to get your USI for your study.

Entry requirements

While there are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, it is recommended that you have sound literacy and numeracy skills and a proficient level of English. Furthermore, it is recommended that you have a level of physical fitness that would enable you to stand and perform massage for an extended period of time.

Resources required

You will require access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online systems, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at a number of TAFE Queensland locations. Additionally, you will require:

  • a valid email address
  • closed-in shoes
  • comfortable clothing, including; long pants and a black polo shirt or TAFE Queensland Polo shirt (no denim shorts or board shorts)
  • personal stationery (pen and paper)
  • USB

You will be required to supply 2 x large bath sheets, 4 x hand towels and 4 x face washers for your own personal use when receiving massages for the purpose of learning.

You will also be required to purchase or borrow the following textbook:

To successfully complete this course within the specified timeframe, additional 10 to 15 hours per week of independent study is recommended for theory work and practical application (outside of class time).

Please note that timetabling information is subject to change, and may vary each Semester/Intake.

Placement

Vocational Placement is not a mandatory component of this qualification. However, it is highly recommended that you complete 80 hours of work experience during your final term of study. This can be independtly organised, or coordinated by the teaching team. Please note that this work experience is optional and not a mandatory course requirement.

Important Information

On successful completion of this qualification you are able to apply to become a member of any National Massage Association and apply for health fund rebate status providing you meet their requirements.

If you are hoping to apply for health rebate status for all health funds, you need to be aware that attendance at all scheduled classes is extremely important in order to meet the training time requirements for specific health fund eligibility.

To successfully complete this qualification, it is a requirement that you attend a minimum of 240 hours of on campus supervised practical application.

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front, or you are not eligible for VET Student Loan, you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Note: If you are accessing a VET Student Loan, and there is a difference between the loan cap amount and the total cost of your course (for example your loan cap amount is $10,000 and your course costs $11,000 - there is a $1,000 difference), you are required to pay the difference.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.
