Entry requirements

Entry into this course is via a traineeship pathway - this course is designed for students who are school-based or employees who are full-time or part-time within an appropriate establishment based in the hospitality industry.

Resources required

  • Personal Stationary (pens and paper)
  • Black closed-in shoes
  • Long black pants or a knee length black skirt
  • Plain black short sleeved shirt (three-quarter or long sleeved black shirts are also acceptable)

You will also require access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online systems, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at a number of TAFE Queensland locations.

Timetable

The nominal term for full-time trainees is 24 months.

Delivery of this program is available as a combination of workplace training and may include some delivery at TAFE. Where workplace training is selected, a Facilitator will be assigned to attend your workplace to deliver training and assess your skills and knowledge.

Delivery at TAFE consists of face-to-face classes and workshops. The duration of your attendance will vary depending on the stage and the units of competency specified in your individual training plan.

Important Information

Students must have employment within hospitality and signed up into a traineeship under an approved training contract.

Units

The successful achievement of this qualification requires you to complete 15 units in total, including 7 core units and 8 elective units from the list below. The 8 electives will be negotiated during the sign up process, following training package rules and according to workplace requirements. The elective units available may vary between locations, delivery modes and intakes.

Disclaimer

The elective units available may vary between locations, delivery modes and intakes.

Eligible apprentices and trainees who meet the Queensland state funding requirements will be charged a student contribution fee of $1.60 per nominal hour. For more information on the number of units funded for this course visit Queensland Training Information Service (QTIS).

Nominal hours for each unit will be outlined in the agreed training plan, which will be provided to the employer and apprentice or trainee, at the time of induction.

Non-funded apprentices and trainees will be charged a fee for service cost. The student and employer contribution fee will be outlined in the training plan and agreed to, prior to the commencement of training.

If you are already employed as an apprentice or trainee, let your employer know that you want TAFE Queensland South West to be your Supervising Registered Training Organisation (SRTO), then contact an Australian Apprenticeships Centre to organise your training contract.
