Unique Student Identifier (USI) - Student Information

Entry requirements

Students must be employed as an apprentice or trainee and have a signed Registered Training Contract, stating TAFE Queensland South West is the Supervising Registered Training Organisation (SRTO).

Resources required

You will require access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online systems, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at a number of TAFE Queensland locations.

You will also require:

  • a valid email address
  • personal stationery (pens and paper)
  • closed-in black shoes (leather)
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • a Chef Uniform

It is also recommended that you provide your own knife set.


The nominal term for full-time apprentices is 36 months.

Delivery of this program is available as a combination of workplace training and may include some delivery at TAFE.  Where workplace training is selected, a Teacher will be assigned to attend the workplace to deliver training and assess the apprentice’s skills and knowledge.

Delivery at TAFE consists of face to face classes after being released from the workplace by employers. A simulated work environment is provided for the application of skills before returning to work.

The duration of attendance will vary depending on the stage and the units of competency specified in the apprentices individual training plan. TAFE Training times will be provided on the training notices.


The successful achievement of this qualification requires you to complete 25 units in total, including 21 core units and 4 elective units.
