How to enrol

Unique Student Identifier (USI) - Student Information

From 1 January 2015 if you are undertaking a nationally recognised program at TAFE Queensland you will need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Learn all about the USI and how to get your USI for your study.

Entry requirements

While there are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, considering the following points might assist you to decide if you are ready to study at this level:

  • Strong literacy, oral, and learning skills will be required to successfully complete assessments (please note that there are additional requirements for those seeking a VET Student Loan)
  • Self-motivation and the confidence to reach out for support if needed are crucial for external study, or additional study outside of the classroom - staff at TAFE are here to support you throughout your training

Resources required

You will require access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online systems, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at a number of TAFE Queensland locations.

You will also require personal stationery (pen and paper), and a valid email address.

Timetable

This course can be completed Full Time, spread across 2 semesters (1 year) or Part Time spread across 4 semesters (2 years).

Each term also includes  face-to-face sessions at our Toowoomba campus (4 blocks per year). You must attend a minimum of half of these blocks, however it is strongly encouraged that you attend all if possible.

Units

The successful achievement of this qualification requires you to complete 17 units in total, including 13 core units and 4 elective units.

This program has elective streams so you can focus your study to learn more about an area that you may have an interest in, or are currently working in. These streams include:

  • Mental Health

You will be required to select which stream you will undertake, at the time of enrolment.

VET Student Loans

VET Student Loans are an interest-free loan from the Australian Government that help students pay for their education and training.

TAFE Queensland receives the full loan amount for your course directly from the Government, and you repay your loan through the Australian taxation system once your income reaches a certain threshold.

You are eligible for a VET Student Loan if you:

You must demonstrate academic suitability by:

  • providing a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (year 12 certificate); OR
  • providing evidence of successful completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework certificate IV or higher qualification (where the language of instruction is English), OR
  • are assessed as a minimum of Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ASCF) in both reading and numeracy

Please note that all students enrolling in an accredited course are required to provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front, or you are not eligible for VET Student Loan, you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Note: If you are accessing a VET Student Loan, and there is a difference between the loan cap amount and the total cost of your course (for example your loan cap amount is $10,000 and your course costs $11,000 - there is a $1,000 difference), you are required to pay the difference.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

You are eligible for the concession price of a course if you are eligible for subsidised training, and are listed on an Australian Government Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, if you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, you hold a Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card, or if you have a disability.
