On graduation you'll be qualified and job-ready for an occupation in agriculture. There are a range of qualifications available for those wanting to work in the great outdoors!

Unique Student Identifier (USI) - Student Information

From 1 January 2015 if you are undertaking a nationally recognised program at TAFE Queensland you will need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Learn all about the USI and how to get your USI for your study.

Entry requirements

Although there are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, this course is best suited to those who have extensive experience in the rural industry, or are currently working on properties whilst studying. Those without experience will be required to discuss this course with our teaching team prior to enrolment, and/or might like to consider the Certificate III in Rural Operations.

Resources required

You will require access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online systems, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader. This equipment and software is available for students to use at a number of TAFE Queensland locations.

You will also require a valid and appropriate email address.

Timetable

This qualification is offered in a blended format. You will complete your training externally, and will also be required to participate in a number of workshops throughout the course duration. Each workshop will be focused on specific unit/s of competency to assist you to progress with your assessment for that unit/s.

Workshops are held fortnightly will be conducted via VideoConference. All sessions are scheduled on the date of the workshop, at the locations listed on the timetable, from 8:30am to 12:30pm. All sessions will be recorded. If your closest campus location is not available for a specific workshop, or you are unable to attend, a link to the recording of the workshop will be sent via email.

The successful achievement of this qualification requires you to complete 10 elective units. The 10th unit can be chosen between AHCNAR506, AHCLSK501 or AHCBAC408.

VET Student Loans

VET Student Loans are an interest-free loan from the Australian Government that help students pay for their education and training.

TAFE Queensland receives the full loan amount for your course directly from the Government, and you repay your loan through the Australian taxation system once your income reaches a certain threshold.

You are eligible for a VET Student Loan if you:

You must demonstrate academic suitability by:

  • providing a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (year 12 certificate); OR
  • providing evidence of successful completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework certificate IV or higher qualification (where the language of instruction is English), OR
  • are assessed as a minimum of Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ASCF) in both reading and numeracy

Please note that all students enrolling in an accredited course are required to provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front, or you are not eligible for VET Student Loan, you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Note: If you are accessing a VET Student Loan, and there is a difference between the loan cap amount and the total cost of your course (for example your loan cap amount is $10,000 and your course costs $11,000 - there is a $1,000 difference), you are required to pay the difference.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Higher Level Skills Subsidy

The Higher Level Skills Subsidy offsets the cost of an eligible Certificate IV or higher course.

You're eligible for the Higher Level Skills Subsidy if you:

  • are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • live in Queensland full time
  • are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate IV or higher level qualification.
  • Other restrictions or eligibility criteria may apply
