Unique Student Identifier (USI) - Student Information

Entry requirements

Students must be employed as an apprentice or trainee and have a signed Registered Training Contract, stating TAFE Queensland South West is the Supervising Registered Training Organisation (SRTO).

Resources required

You will require personal stationery (pens and paper), a valid email address, and the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

  • cotton drill long pants and long sleeved shirt
  • steel capped boots
  • hat
  • sunglasses
  • sunscreen
  • water bottle

You will also require access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online systems, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at a number of TAFE Queensland locations.


The nominal term for full-time trainees is 1 year (12 months).

Delivery of this Traineeship is via a combination of attendance at TAFE, and training in the workplace. Attendance at TAFE involves face-to-face classes after being released from the workplace by your employer. A simulated work environment is provided for the application of skills. Classes are generally held 1 day per week, from 9am to 3:30pm. The duration of your attendance will vary depending on the stage and the units of competency specified in your individual training plan.

Delivery in the workplace will be negotiated as required.


The successful achievement of this qualification requires you to complete 15 units in total, 5 core and 10 elective units. Please note that there are additional packaging rules related to elective choices that will be discussed during the development of the Training Plan.

The elective units available may vary between locations, delivery modes and intakes.

Eligible trainees who meet the Queensland state funding requirements will be charged a student contribution fee of $1.60 per nominal hour. For more information on the number of units funded for this course, please visit Queensland Training Information Service (QTIS).

Nominal hours for each unit will be outlined in the agreed training plan, which will be provided to the employer and trainee, at the time of induction.

Non-funded trainees will be charged a fee for service cost. The student and employer contribution fee will be outlined in the training plan and agreed to, prior to the commencement of training.
