They can provide counselling, referral, advocacy and education/health promotion services. How to enrol

Unique Student Identifier (USI) - Student Information

From 1 January 2015 if you are undertaking a nationally recognised program at TAFE Queensland you will need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Learn all about the USI and how to get your USI for your study.

Entry requirements

While there are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, it is recommended that you consider the following:

  • Self-motivation and the confidence to reach out for support if needed are crucial for external study, or additional study outside of the classroom - staff at TAFE are here to support you throughout your training
  • Strong literacy, oral and learning skills will be required to successfully complete assessments

Resources required

You will require access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online systems, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at a number of TAFE Queensland locations.

You will also require personal stationery (pen and paper), enclosed shoes, and a valid email address.

Timetable

This course is delivered full time over 1.5 years (3 semesters) or part time over 3 years (6 semesters).

You will be required to participate in 5 day face-to-face blocks. You will complete a total of 6 blocks though out your course. You will also complete a total of 160 hours of Vocational Placement throughout the duration of your course.

To successfully complete each group of units within this timeframe, it is recommended that you undertake approximately 15 hours of independent study per week.

Placement

You will be required to complete a total of 160 hours of placement throughout the course duration. You will complete 40 hours of Vocational Placement in your first semester and 60 hours of Vocational Placement in your second and third semesters. Please note this placement is compulsory.

VET Student Loans

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Prior to applying for a VET Student Loan, please ensure that you have read and understood the VET Student Loans Pre-Enrolment Information

VET Student Loans are an interest-free loan from the Australian Government that help students pay for their education and training.

TAFE Queensland receives the full loan amount for your course directly from the Government, and you repay your loan through the Australian taxation system once your income reaches a certain threshold.

You are eligible for a VET Student Loan if you:

You must demonstrate academic suitability by:

  • providing a copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (year 12 certificate); OR
  • providing evidence of successful completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework certificate IV or higher qualification (where the language of instruction is English), OR
  • are assessed as a minimum of Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ASCF) in both reading and numeracy

Please note that all students enrolling in an accredited course are required to provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front, or you are not eligible for VET Student Loan, you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Note: If you are accessing a VET Student Loan, and there is a difference between the loan cap amount and the total cost of your course (for example your loan cap amount is $10,000 and your course costs $11,000 - there is a $1,000 difference), you are required to pay the difference.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.
