Graduation

Successfully completing a level of study is a great reason to celebrate. At TAFE Queensland, we celebrate the doers - our graduates who are starting, changing, moving up or re-starting their careers. We think it is fantastic that you have upskilled and reached another stepping stone in your lifelong learning journey, and we want to celebrate your success!

TAFE Queensland holds annual graduation ceremonies for students who have successfully completed a Certificate III, Certificate IV, Diploma and/or Advanced Diploma in South West Queensland.

Upcoming Graduation Ceremonies

The ceremony dates for eligible 2017 graduating students from South West Queensland are as follows:

Ipswich Graduation

In 2018 Ipswich graduation ceremonies will be held over three consecutive nights for different faculty groups. Each ceremony will be held at the TAFE Queenland Auditorium, Corner Mary and Byrne Streets, Bundamba Q 4304. The ceremonies will be held on:

Tuesday, 27 February 2018 for Services (including Hospitality, Events, Hairdressing, Beauty, Massage and Retail),
Foundation and Language Skills, Infrastructure and Primary Industries (including Rural Operations and Horticulture) and Manufacturing (including all Trades).

Wednesday, 28 February 2018 for Business and Education (including Business, Creative Industries, Justice, IT,
Early Childhood Education and Care, Education Support and TAE).

Thursday, 1 March 2018 for Health and Community Services.

Toowoomba Graduation

The Toowoomba graduation ceremony will be held on one day, for all faculties.

The ceremony will be held at HumeRidge Church of Christ, 461 Hume Street, Toowoomba Q 4350, on Saturday, 3 March 2018.

To register for graduation, you are required to complete the Graduation Response Form (PDF, 52KB) and return prior to the RSVP date - Friday, 9 February 2018. Please complete this form with as much detail as possible.

The Graduation Response Form and payment details can be returned in person to one of our Customer Service Centres, via post (to TAFE Queensland - Graduation, PO Box 80, Toowoomba Q 4350), or emailed to Graduation.SouthWest@tafe.qld.edu.au

Late registrations will not be accepted after the RSVP date (Friday, 9 February 2018) due to gown hire and catering requirements.

Who is eligible to graduate?

All students who have successfully completed an Advanced Diploma, Diploma, Certificate IV or Certificate III in 2017 at TAFE Queensland (in Ipswich, Inala, Springfield, Toowoomba, Warwick, Kingaroy, Nurunderi, Dalby, Chinchilla and Roma) are eligible to graduate at one of the Ipswich ceremonies or the Toowoomba ceremony.

All eligible students will receive an invitation (print and/or email) after they complete their qualification. If you have not received your invitation and believe you are eligible to graduate, please contact us.

When and where are the graduations?

In 2018 Ipswich graduation ceremonies will be held over three consecutive nights for different faculty groups. Each ceremony will be held at the TAFE Queensland Auditorium, Corner Mary and Byrne Streets,
Bundamba Q 4304. The ceremonies will be held on:

Tuesday, 27 February 2018 for Services (including Hospitality, Events, Hairdressing, Beauty, Massage and Retail), Foundation and Language Skills, Infrastructure and Manufacturing.

Wednesday, 28 February 2018 for Business and Education (including Business, Creative Industries, Justice, IT, Early Childhood Education and Care, Education Support and TAE).

Which graduation ceremony do I attend?

You can attend the Ipswich ceremony applicable to your faculty (contact us if you are unsure where you fit), or the Toowoomba ceremony. It is not restricted to where you studied.

Please indicate your choice on the Graduation Response Form.

How do I register for graduation?

What registration fee do I pay, and why?

As graduating students are provided with different graduation attire for the ceremony, depending on qualification level, registration fees vary. The graduation registration fees for 2018 are:

Certificate III graduates - $30

Certificate IV graduates - $40

Diploma/Advanced Diploma graduates - $50

The registration fee includes the hire of the graduation attire, light refreshments before/after the ceremony depending on the location, your printed program, and up to four guests.

Payment methods accepted include: in-person with cash or card, posted cheque or submitted card details (with the Graduation Response Form).

How many guests can I bring with me?

Due to restrictions on venue sizes, each graduating student is able to bring a maximum of four quests to their graduation ceremony.

Please note your number of guests on the Graduation Response Form.

What do I wear?

As this is a graduation ceremony and formal photographs will be taken at the event, it is expected that graduating students and their guests wear semi-formal attire.

Please note that all graduating students will wear some form of academic attire. For those required to wear an academic gown, please consider your clothing carefully as it can get quite hot.

What is Academic Attire?

Academic gowns, mortar boards and sashes are provided for use on the day of graduation only. All attire is to be returned promptly after the ceremony to the gowning room.

Students receiving a Diploma or Advanced Diploma wear full academic attire: gown, sash and mortar board.

Students receiving a Certificate IV wear: academic gown and sash.

Students receiving a Certificate III wear: sash only.

For those required to wear an academic gown, please consider the clothing you wear underneath carefully as it can get quite hot.

How do the graduations run on the day?

Ipswich Graduation Schedule

The Ipswich graduations are evening events that run from approximately 4:30pm (commencing with gowning and photography, followed by pre-ceremony canapés), with the official ceremony taking place 6:00pm - 7:30pm approximately.

Toowoomba Graduation Schedule

The Toowoomba graduation is a day-time event that runs from approximately 12:00pm (starting with gowning and photography, students to arrive as per Faculty Arrival Schedule below), with the official ceremony taking place 2:00pm - 4:00pm approximately, followed by light refreshments.

Faculty Arrival Schedule

12:00pm (noon): Business, Accounting, Adult Tertiary Preparation, Training and Assessment, Graphic Design, Photography, Information Technology.

12:15pm: Hairdressing, Beauty, Hospitality, Events

12:30pm: Early Childhood Education and Care, Education Support, Community Services, Massage

12:45pm: Nursing and Health

1:00pm: Trades including Construction, Plumbing, Electrical, Automotive, Engineering and others

1:10pm: Horticulture, Rural Operations, Agriculture, Work Safety AND all other students

Will there be formal photography?

Formal photographs will be taken prior to the commencement of each graduation ceremony. Details and prices will be provided closer to the graduations.

Our own photographers will also be at the event to capture special moments. So we can celebrate your success in coverage of these events, please consider signing the Release Authorisation on the Graduation Response Form.
